The purpose of the day will be to bring people together to explore these topics and share experiences through practical nature connection and experiential learning activities at Oxen Park Farm - home to the land based learning company On The Hill. All food will be provided and we extend an invitation to stay later into the afternoon when we will light the pizza oven and celebrate the turning of the seasons.
The last 18 months has left many with a strong desire to spend time in, and 'reconnect' to nature, yet access to the natural world is not always straightforward. Environmental education has been put in the spotlight during the pandemic; showcasing the importance of time spent outdoors with dual related benefits of the cultivation of pro-environmental behaviours and health and wellbeing. Research has demonstrated the power of 'taking notice' of natural phenomena and in developing a relationship with nature through attentiveness. However, opportunities for such experiences are severely limited at a time when, arguably, environmental education is needed more than ever. Researchers from Exeter's geography department led by Professor Stewart Barr have spent the past 12 months mentoring education specialists through the ESRC funded engaged research project 'Education at a Time of Emergency' to help them navigate these challenges - we invite you to become part of this conversation at Oxen Park Farm this autumn.
The day is led by Dr Lewis Winks and Dr Harry Hilser from the University of Exeter Geography Department alongside experienced facilitators at On The Hill.
Everyone including families and children.
Education specialists (both formal and non-formal education) will be particularly interested in this event, but it is open to all - the day will be family friendly with activities suitable for children of all ages.
