In this event we will explore recent efforts to co-develop a best practice charter, aimed at creating meaningful change for parents in and leaving local authority care. Co-produced with care experienced parents, practitioners and policy makers, the charter is aimed at Corporate Parents (professionals with responsibility for supporting young people in state care). In Wales, Corporate Parents are directed to seek the same outcomes for children in local authority care as any good parent would seek for their own child. Dr Louise Roberts will share an overview of our research, highlighting the challenges faced by parents in and leaving care, the best practice charter and wider resources developed and will discuss what it's like to conduct research in this area. We hope this event will raise awareness and improve support for parents in and leaving care. The event will conclude with Q&A session and we look forward to answering your questions on this topic.
The event is lead by Dr Louise Roberts, Lecturer in Social Work at Cardiff University and Rachael Vaughan, Engagement worker at CASCADE, Children’s Social Care research and development centre at Cardiff University. The event is supported by parents in and leaving care, supported by Voices From Care Cymru.
Anyone is welcome to attend this event. It would be of particular interest to anyone working with or supporting parents in and leaving care in the UK.
